The question most firms leave unanswered until the third call. Here are the four shapes an engagement takes, and how commercials work in each.
Project delivery
A defined outcome with a defined end. We agree scope, milestones and success measures before anything is built.
Fixed scope, milestone-based. Typical projects run from $40,000 to $250,000 over three to nine months.
Dedicated team
Ongoing capacity alongside your own engineers, with named people rather than interchangeable seats.
Named team, monthly. From $9,000 per engineer per month, three-month minimum.
Technical advisory
Architecture review, technical due diligence, or fractional engineering leadership.
Time-boxed engagements. Typically $6,000 to $25,000 for a two- to six-week review.
Support & run
Keeping a live system healthy, with agreed response commitments.
Retained, with an agreed response time. From $2,500 per month, scaled to the size of the system and the response time you need.
